Samsung's upcoming Galaxy J5 (2017) seen in live images

While the Samsung Galaxy S8 duo commands the lion’s share of tech press, those seeking something a little less grandiose (and pricey) may instead look to the likes of the Samsung Galaxy J5 (2017) (SM-J530). The J series of Sammy’s roster targets the lower end of the smartphone market, and several recent leaks have indicated that this year’s J5 could be just around the corner. In the latest tidbit, we have a couple of hands-on images to mull over, including one that offers a look inside the device.

The images, which you can check out in the gallery below, offer a clear peek of what can be expected. All told, the purported Galaxy J5 (2017) looks sleek if not spectacular — befitting of the expected lower-end specs. The current Galaxy J5 (2016) sports a Snapdragon 410 chip and 2 GB RAM along with a 720p display, and the one-up is unlikely to break the mold.
From what we’ve gathered, the upcoming 2017 model will include an Exynos 7870 chipset and a 12-megapixel selfie camera which, presumably, will be quite some way superior to the 5-megapixel front-facing snapper of 2016’s version. There may also be a similar, if not identical 12-megapixel shooter to the rear. Elsewhere, the J5 (2017) is expected to include a 4.8-inch display, which would be smaller than the 5.2-inch panel of the J5 (2016) but with the same (720 x 1280) resolution.
There are conflicting reports suggesting that the Galaxy J5 (2017) could ship with Android 6.0 Marshmallow or the more recent Android 7.0 Nougat. Here’s hoping the latter is true.
